When you look at the only people El Weleily lost to in 2010, Massaro, Kawy, David, Duncalf and Grinham, you can see why she is considered to be one of the most dangerous players on tour.
The twenty two year old from Alexandria had a great year in 2010, making her top ten debut in August at number ten.
The two time former World Junior Champion had a great start to 2010 in North America. She reached the semi final of both the Greenwich Open and the Burning River Classic. She beat Camille Serme and Laura Massaro before losing to Omneya Abdel Kawy in five close games in Greenwich. The upsets continued at the Burning River Classic, taking out Massaro again followed by Kasey Brown. It was Kawy once again that thwarted El Weleily.
Massaro gained revenge in the KL Open in March, winning 12-10 in the fifth in a first round encounter.
A solid semi final showing at the Hurghada International followed, once again being beaten by Kawy.
Malaysia brought about success this time in July for El Weleily. She reached her first Gold level semi final. After only just scrapping through qualifying against young compatriot Nour El Sherbini, she found her feet and stunned Rachel Grinham in the first round, before outlasting Massaro 13-11 in the fifth in the quarters. Duncalf denied her a place in the final after a tough 3-1 victory.
Tough draws preceded this, coming up against Nicol David in Singapore, the World Open and Mexico. Mexico did bring another Gold level semi final though, dismissing Madeline Perry in the quarter finals, 3-0.
Two more quarter final appearances followed, at the Carol Weymuller Open, where Massaro reversed the fortunes once more and the Qatar Classic where Grinham held her off in five games.
The year finished on a high with El Weleily reaching her first tour final of the year at home in Sharm El Sheikh. Meeting for the fifth time since January, El Weleily was up against Massaro once more. Massaro narrowly won in four games to claim the title.
2010 proved that El Weleily is one of the top players in the World. She has all the shots that any player could wish for. Consistency is the only thing stopping her from reaching the very top. If she can do this in 2011 then the sky is the limit.
2010 tour win-loss record: 21-11
